
Seems to be working, I didn’t get the answer from here first, but I can attest that this is a working solution to the black screen after logon problem. The third time (right now) I learned about the behavioral shield on the Avast forums, and after uninstalling in safe mode, reinstalled without the Behavioral Shield. The second time, I messed around with safe mode and uninstalled Avast, that worked. So I did a system refresh through the W8 boot disc (no restore points, I turn them off), lost a lot of stuff, but not that big of a deal. The first time I thought I screwed something up, this is the first PC I built, it’s over 5 years old, and prone to issues.

I have had this black screen problem 3 times now, all occurred after my very first reboot after activating my copy of Avast. I guessed that it could be Avast, I’m not blaming avast personally but all antiviruses act weirdly sometimes (My past experience).

I tried to start a new process (explorer.exe) using task manager but looked like it was blocked as it was not appearing under the process tab.
